Was walking through the city, saw a young business man standing there, reading his paper. Worth the shot, I really like this one.
----------
Why do I think this image characterizes Belgium ? For several reasons ofcourse.
What you see is "de Schelde", a river in Antwerp. the picture is taken on "het zuiderterras" (southern walkthing )
The contrast between the grafitti and the young business is big, although it's completely possible there is no contrast. A young man, loving to spray grafitti, just found a new job. He's looking back at is old life as a skater or so, as a new born working adult...
Or maybe it's just our multiracial, multicultural society that's visible in this photograph...
Anyway, this is something from Antwerp, and Antwerp is located in Belgium. Feel free to find your own story about this one (-:
great concept..hehe..
I can see how you arrived at this conclusion
I quite like the use of the body in this shot..
I think it adds to the dark humor by not showing the head
cant suggest anything to add to your technique there
but I could suggest our young business friend get himself a better cut suit....
the grafitty gives an extra contrast between the "juppy" concept and the more free ppl who "terrorize" buildings with their tags and drawingz (although i think grafitti rulez )
it's almost a statement, strikt business world against wonna be free hippy kindof mentality
i bet u didn't see it that way

i like the clean cut seriousness of the man against the disorder of the graffiti tagged wall...very nice pic..i would like to see it in black and white...perhaps crop it a bit to either off set the man more to the right..or crop the left to make him more centered and add a frame and you have a perfect picture.
I ove the cropping on this! I like seeing some of the water, but little of the man. I do like the graffiti (sp) on the wall, and the breifcase. God shot, but I would have made it b&w. . . . Nice shot al the same!
I do really like this shot, despite what I said in your journal... and I agree with the other posters that the graffitti lends a contrast between the big business world and the lower classes, and I would guess that is what you were aiming for, but I dunno... I still would like it better without the graffitti... or perhaps if there was only one or two larger pieces of graffitti, which actually said something (Rather than the shite tags that this type of graffitti is)... if it were some social commentary graffitti, then this shot would be supurb.
Having said all of that, you can hardly control such things, well, unless you set them up, but then that would lessen the impact of the photo, as part of its beauty is that it's real.
If i walk over the 'zuiderteras' whit this grafiti in my mind i can say where the pic is taken
I love that wall, ore how the hell you call it..
there are scratched names and love spells all over it, like for years.. when you walk there you can read names and dates of years ago and yesterday.. I love it there peace wind ...

It's better to regret something you have done, than something you didn't do

The world would be better place if only everyone would just shut up and listen to Bob Marley!!!
the composition is perfect.
the horizontal flow of the wall, road, water,
broken by the vertical line of the man.
I love the tension between the two black elements --
the guy and his briefcase -- the whole concept is excellent.
the only suggestion I might have would have been
to get more perspective into the picture...
that way, the wall would more actively create movement.
Having said all of that, you can hardly control such things, well, unless you set them up, but then that would lessen the impact of the photo, as part of its beauty is that it's real.
Still, a thumbs up from me.
